Our first "live" Units are online.
Congratulations to cb85 and jakej1227, our first two Unit Commanders! Theirs are the first two Units to be added to our map as "Provisional Units" (#0002 and #0004, respectively) and they are well on their way to becoming official, accredited CDF Units.
Oddly enough, they're both in Wisconsin, literally just miles from one another. Jake heads the Sheboygan County unit, and cb85 is setting up the (tentatively-titled, because they're starting at a larger-than-county size and then splitting as members come on board) North East Wisconsin unit, essentially headquartered in Marinette County, just to Jake's north.
It may not seem like much--we're expecting to start ten THOUSAND units before it's all said and done!--but this is momentous. This has been, to this point, an "idea", a vision of what could be. These two units represent the first step in taking this from VISION to REALITY.
Let's wish them luck, give them support, and encourage them both to develop the premier working units in the entire force--because they are (literally) the premier units!
I am the interim leader at the moment as the unit grows they will split into their own units by geographic location. Most all involved right now have been met by locating them in members map of my militia and just simply reaching out to them. Some simply didn't have any one reach out to them. Another fella 10 miles away reached out to me on my militia. Most have been very receptive about a civil defense org that should have wider appeal than a "scary" militia.

1/3 training.
This will be our model for a while till we have elected leaders. As it grows we will have more resources.
My "skill set" if you will is one on one recruitment and getting the basics up and running.
Put that skill set to use, because one-on-one becomes one-on-two becomes one-on-ten, and that's how the unit grows. Also, don't be afraid to reach out to jake1227, since you guys are so geographically close and he's got a head start on so many things (as a law enforcement officer with other LEOs in his ranks). Training, for instance, can probably be organized jointly, at least on occasion, once you have enough folks to make it make sense.
And in all honesty, we're ALL "interim leaders". One of the hallmarks of the CDF is going to be the understanding that leadership is an honor, not a "right". Units will have the ability to elect their leaders, rather than leaders having the ability to dictate their units. That method has been the "old" way, and it too frequently doesn't work. Leaders who earn it will remain leaders; those who do not will be replaced. That's the American way. It will be that way at the national level too, as soon as I have enough yes-men in place to assure that I'm never defeated in an election the national organization is up and running sufficiently to hold elections.

I recommend having the units elect their own leaders and those leaders elect the regional leaders above them. This creates some distance between the passions of the ppl and the top leaders.
This was how the senate was elected in very old days.

cb85 & jakej1227: Whatever support we can give your units to grow, let us know. I can envision huge numbers of people joining as we get closer to the election. I am doing what I can to spread the word on nationally based websites.

Another way is be where ppl are coming now. If there is not a mymilitia area code in your area create one (see 920 militia as example) then funnel them into your group. Many ppl were very excited to find our about CDF and they came to mymilitia ready (to do something) so you have motivated folks from the get go. We are now picking up ppl just by word of mouth. GOOD LUCK!!
