Keeping misleading stories off of the forum

One of the goals of this site is to draw more of the "common man" to join in the defense of their community. One quick turn off is the word "militia"... because of the media, it has many negative connotations to the general public, that is why we discuss a civilian defense force and not a militia.

Another point that will discourage the every-man is fringe conspiracy theories.

To that end, I would like to discuss options among the membership here before any decisions are made.

My gut reaction is to blacklist known conspiracy sites such as Naturalnews, Infowars, TheCommonsense Show, Etc...

Now don't mistake me... SOME of their content is indeed truthful, but if there is a real story, you should be able to find it from another source, or get it from their original sources as well,

I did another post illustrating the vetting of an article on NaturalNews here: https://hq.civiliandefenseforce.org/forum/topic/case-studyvetting-an-intelligence-source/

What I propose... If such an article appears, I would lock it from further posts, and describe why it was being locked.

Is this too heavy handed? Are there more sources that should be blocked?

What are your thoughts. In want to establish the standard for quality of news here while we are still in its genesis.

Das

I agree. Moderators need to reign in vulgar language, overly salty comparisons, conspiracy theorists, stupid crap ex. The stupid argument about 5g on mymilitia.

quality over quantity.

Id love a site I can send 15 year olds to and not get complaints from parents. I'd like to be able to send my baptist friends here without the organ player coming and telling me how can you go on that??

rign it in but not be an ass.

If you need to chew someone out do it with a smile 😉

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair. —C.S. Lewis

Are the people not the militia?

Are you to decide the definition of words?

Are you the arbiter of truth?

Is it not to the individual to decide what they believe to be true?

A free man is one who is free in mind and spirit. A critical thinker, discerning what is truth from fiction. This kind of censorship is exactly why I won’t be staying long. You will be no better than CNN, Facebook or Twitter in deciding what’s “worthy” news. You can count me out if this is decided to be implemented. Before you could even get off the ground, you’ve shot yourself in the foot.

Yeah and as long as we are advocating for free speech lets let antifa come in and say whatever they want.

In fact if they show up they have a right to say whatever they want so let's just give them the site.

This isn't a place for absolutely free speech. Any one that thinks that isn't thinking it through.

I believe in free speech but if some one starts using the F*** word in my home I'm gonna kick them out.

This is OUR house if you want to stay in it obey the rules.

First off, I would like to say we are not a militia.

That movement has tainted itself so much it has no hopes of redemption.

What we are trying to create here is a community-oriented organization.

That will contribute to the betterment of the units' locations.

Be it food drives, first aid training, etc. Yes there will be a self-defense element, but it's not the primary purpose of this organization.

Second, we hope for dialogue among our members, but we would also like it to be productive. Not the conspiracy theory is spreading, hype building discussions that go on at most other sites.

We are asking individuals to think before they just blindly post stuff.

To contribute positively and not do the mindless repost just because it seems legit.

It's the same for when an Intelligence assessment is completed.

The analysis has to be able to cite where he came up with his information and how that led to his conclusion.

We have no problem allowing articles written by other people posted if the author of the article cites where he received his information from and that's why the article states what it does.

@DasBlinkenlight wrote another post and explained how he was able to take an article written on one of those sites. He did a bit of OSINT gathering and showed how the piece was utter trash, and the author should have been ashamed for writing it.

In the times we are in, we need factual reporting by all individuals.

I remember a time when reporters had to cite how they were able to come to the conclusions they did in their articles.

Back when the media wasn't so one-sided, and they took pride in their profession. Now it's just all about the views and traffic they receive.

If people are offended, we are responsible for what we allow to be shared on a private website. Well you can't always please everyone!

And I, for one, support it if it keeps us from becoming the clusterfuck that is the modern militia movement. (In My Personal Opinion)

@cb85 said it best, in my opinion. "Quality over Quantity"

I would even say in the beginning quality will ultimately dictate our long term quantity.

no one wants to be associated with a second rate conspiracy, name calling, you know what measuring contest.

Oh, sounds like what militia's and churches do. My mistake.

As for censoring articles, why not let the members decide the discourse? Choosing what knowledge can or cannot be shared and discussed sounds more like a cult.

Something like this:

"Sorry Tim, you cannot post THAT knowledge. Our members are too fragile for THAT discourse. We have to protect their little fragile minds and keep them from thinking critically about that subject. WE, the mighty forum moderators, decide what baby food they can chew. And you know, they are NOT allowed to eat solid food."

Enjoy your echo chamber.

It's about optics. New ppl come to the site and say to themselves.....,....

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 I don't want to send my friends here they will think I'm crazy!

so no, it's about branding, marketing and creating a platform that ppl want to be a part of.

My first thing I have to do when talking about the CDF is say hey we arnt the boogaloo movement or militia movement. Cuz that's the first thing they say.

Why shoot our selves in the foot? We have a huge hill to climb.

thats the vision for this site and its associated units. If that's not your vision that's fine, but I suggest finding another group then cuz we aren't changing the course we are on.

We are not gonna come off as a bunch of far right, inbred, conspiracy nuts that say oh whatever as long as it's in the name of free speech.

just cuz you should have a right to do things don't mean it's a good idea or you should.

So great we all agree you can say anything you want! Just not here.

Therefore it aint gonna happen here!!

Far right inbred conspiracy nut... are you by chance a democrat? What a joke. How do I abolish my membership?

I absolutely encourage critical thinking... wish it was still taught in schools. But you are creating a straw man... It's not that we want to keep people from "THAT knowledge"

First, Topics have to be somewhat relevant and topical... just as it wouldn't be topical to fill a Ford Bronco forum with Taylor Swift album reviews, we want to keep this forum somewhat oriented to the mission at hand... Not every website is going to be voat.co and allow just everything.

If you want to discuss how Gavin Newsome and China are using 5G towers to create corona virus, so BLM can overthrow the Illuminati, before they use chemtrails for mind control of MS-13, there are dozens of websites where you can have that discussion. We are not forbidding anyone from going there. But in the end, those "discussions" often drift deep in to conspiracy land, and that drives off a significant number of interested people.

The short of it is articles like that have no actionable information, etc..., and have a negative effect overall here.

Given the discussion here, at the moment there will be no automatic blacklisting of any source from me, but I would insist on self scrutiny before posting stuff from questionable sources.
