I sat down to write this, before finding that someone already had. And seeing as I really couldn’t have written it any better, I’m going to simply link to it and allow you to read it on his blog. I wouldn’t have added as many references to religion as the author, but he’s a pastor and I am not–thus it is to be expected. Even those are timely and apropos, though, so don’t fear the brief detours into religion that appear here.
Before I post the link, I’m going to steal one of the quotes he uses to bolster his message. It is from Patrick Henry, that “Give me Liberty or give me Death!” fellow. I’m sure you’ve read it before, but it is so absolutely perfect in this moment that I want to highlight it once more.
“They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power.”Patrick Henry
And now, please read the words of another Patrick–Patrick Wyatt–as he perfectly lays out the case for why, if we intend to save the Republic, the time to fight is right now.
